“Go Green!”

In autumn 2012 adolescents from Germany, Latvia and Poland took part in a week-long exchange program dealing with “sustainable food” in Berlin. The exchange program had been prepared during a first encounter in Latvia in the summer. Here, participants gained vital elementary experience with nature, climate, seasons, animals, plants, etc. in the context of an outdoor project and visited agricultural holdings to gain insight into food production processes. These themes were further delved into during the Berlin workshops and a visit to the eco village Brodowin. The exchange program was concluded by a simulation game, Eurotopia, which offered the adolescents an opportunity to engross themselves with current European challenges, especially questions of ecologically sustainable ways of living, global responsibility and consequences for the European agrarian and climate policy. Embedded in a day long role play participants expressed themselves as experts of various fields. Characters as Mr. C. Columbus, Mr. Methu Salem as well as Mr. V. Gan and Ms. Eco No-My – real or invented experts – were discussing current European problems in a fictional setting with obvious connections to reality. The freedom to think broadly, with unexpected experiences and knowledge opened the mind of the participants. Euphoric, sceptical and static ideas found their ways into discussion.

Ludwig-Wolker-Haus e.V.

Founded in 1959, we develop and realize international exchange programs. Based on our self-conception as Christians, we focus our attention on the reality of life, experiences, moral concepts and questions concerning adolescents. It is not about promoting knowledge on certain topics among young people that are of importance, but rather the encountering of people, the dialogue, the disputes and the exchange with the others is essential to us. Since 2004 the association realized more than 50 bi- and multinaltional project meeting for young people, young adults and education professionals.
