Heritage, Tradition and Modernity. European Culture and the Transfer of Knowledge through Journeymen
In their search for an overnight accommodation in Sibiu/Romania in the year 2000, trade journeymen travelling abroad came into contact with a Protestant pastor who provided a place for them to stay at Huetplatz 3, an old tower.
In 2006 the idea arose to found an association so that it would be possible to take advantage of opportunities that could not have been realised before.
The association connects journeymen and locals to facilitate a better exchange of information and collaboration on various projects.
The potential that journeymen have in terms of high-quality trade expertise and labour is pooled and organised to benefit the Romanian population and the journeymen in the greatest possible way.
The association arranges interesting and demanding work, which is often of a charitable nature, offers the journeymen opportunities to broaden their expertise in their respective trades, and promotes cultural exchange.

The Casa Calfelor Sibiu association was founded in 2007 to preserve, maintain and expand a hostel for travelling tradesmen during their traditional journeymen years.
The fact that this is the first hostel of its kind located outside of Germany, Switzerland and France has led to the exchange and collaboration between a variety of different journeymen associations – both German and French.
Since 2007 the association organises a demonstration workshop that presents a number of different traditional trades with support from regional and European sponsors.
