Connecting Cities Network

CCN
Supported by the Culture Programme of the European Union, the CCN was founded by Public Art Lab in 2012 and currently involves 17 partners in 15 cities: Public Art Lab Berlin – Videospread Marseille – Marseille-Provence 2013 – iMAL Brussels – Medialab-Prado Madrid – Riga 2014 – Ars Electronica Futurelab Linz – BIS (Body Process Arts Association) Istanbul – FACT Liverpool – m-cult Helsinki – Media Architecture Institute Vienna – Foundation Bauhaus Dessau – Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb – University of Aarhus – MUTEK Montreal – Quartier des spectacles Montreal – Verve Cultural Sao Paulo. The CCN’s aim is to create a networked infrastructure of urban media facades to circulate artistic and socio-cultural content between cities. Media facades and digital big screens present new opportunities for communication in the public space: they engage citizens in artistic processes and enable them to shape their urban environments in a collaborative way. We will investigate this creative potential within a 4-years artistic research programme that combines workshops and conferences with the production of artworks and other artistic activities, leading to several Connecting Cities Events. During these events, the participating cities will be connected in an intercultural real-time exchange where a broad public audience can interact with the produced artworks. The CC Events follow three curatorial topics: Networked City 2013 - Participatory City 2014 - Visible City 2015
Public Art Lab
Public Art Lab
Public Art Lab is based in Berlin and directed by curator Susa Pop. PAL realises urban art projects that encourage audiences to participate in the creative process and experience their daily environment from different perspectives. These projects aim at fostering community development, identity building and communication among the city inhabitants. Since 2007 PAL has focused on urban media art, exploring the communicative potential of urban screens and media facades with the Media Facades Festivals (Berlin 2008/Europe 2010), the book Urban Media Cultures 2012 and the Connecting Cities Network.
