lit:potsdam - a new literature festival for Potsdam and Brandenburg will celebrate its start in August. In Potsdam, city with a strong historical importance, international and regional authors will come together for lectures and discussions. This year, the festival will open with a pop up venue of three days from August 30th until September 1st. The main focus of the festival lies on international novelties, complemented by books and authors that are associated with Potsdam and Brandenburg. The festival furthermore regards itself as a platform for an inspiring public exchange on a European scale. Matters of culture, politics and economy in the context of the European integration will be discussed by authors and other personalities. The festival defines itself as a meeting point for all generations, older and younger citizens of Potsdam and Brandenburg as well as tourists and literature enthusiasts from all over Europe. The event thereby tries to enhance the role of literature for our common European cultural heritage. Among its partners and supporters for 2013 are Hans Otto Theater, Stiftung Preußische Schlösser und Gärten, Rundfunk Berlin Brandenburg and Villa Schöningen. Patrons of the festival are the mayor of Potsdam, Jann Jakobs, as well as the Oscar awarded director Volker Schlöndorff.

The non-profit organization lit:pots e.V. was founded in 2012 by dedicated citizens of Potsdam who are convinced that a literature festival of international character will revitalize the cultural landscape of Potsdam and Brandenburg. Its members believe that especially in times of digitalization and transformation of reading culture, the live experience of literature and spoken word is of high cultural value. Therefore the main focus of the organization’s work lies in the conservation and distribution of our literary tradition.
